Before social media ever existed, back in the 90’s when I was around 10 years old, I remember finding celebrity fan mail addresses and sending them letters in hopes that one of them would write me back. I got my wish. Do you remember the movie Now and Then? It used to be my favorite movie ever, I can’t tell you how many times I watched it. Anyway, my favorite character was Samantha, who was played by Gabby Huffman. Yep, Gabby Huffman wrote me back, or at least I like to think that she did and not her “fan team”, haha! I also wrote Claire Danes and received a picture back from her because I was obsessed with the movie Romeo and Juliet! But what was I thinking by not writing Leonardo DiCaprio? 🤔
I used to buy US, People, In Touch and Lifestyle magazines every single week! I’ve secretly always wanted to be a celebrity, who doesn’t? Except I didn’t want to be followed by paparazzi every day. I’m always looking forward to watching all the award shows and red carpets because they aren’t acting, you get to see the real person, who they really are and how they really act. Sometimes when I’ bored I’ll pull up a celebrity name on Wikipedia just to read about they even got started in singing or acting. Call me maybe just a little obsessed 😊
After years of reading those magazines, social media happened. It all started becoming a lot easier to follow celebrities’ lifestyles and if you’re lucky, communicate with them through platforms like Instagram, maybe they’ll reply to one of your comments! I went to concerts and saw musicians live, but I’ve never actually spoke to one, until 2011. My first celebrity run in who I actually got to talk to and get a picture with was Billy Ray Cyrus! I met him at the airport in Nashville, TN. He was so nice and a bit of a flirt 😉 When I asked for a picture, he said, “I thought they had you in handcuffs over there”! Joking about the guards who were standing near check in. But you know, it was all so quick and your mind is going a million miles a second, like is this really happening right now? And once it was over, and he walked away, I was thinking to myself, damn why didn’t you talk some more and ask him questions instead of just laughing and acting shy. At least I was brave enough to ask for a picture.
My next, and so far, my last, celebrity run in was with 98 Degrees in 2019! Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. Ohhhhh my goodness! Again, in the 90’s, I loved listening to their music, along with N’Sync. I wish we could bring back the 90’s for so many reasons even if just for a day! My sister and I went to one of their concerts and had the chance to meet them backstage and get a group picture. Again, this was quick too and I was even more nervous to see them than I was with Bill Ray! I have been following Nick ever since the Jessica Simpson days. I watched every single episode of their reality TV show and although I was devastated when they split, I really enjoy seeing him and Vanessa Minnillo together as I follow both of them on Instagram. Nick is such a nice guy along with all the other 98 Degree guys.
It’s funny because I have been to Los Angeles, but didn’t run in to any celebrities. So, my goal is to go out there again soon and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get lucky and meet one! I would also love to attend an award show and go to a taping of Ellen DeGeneres! Better yet, I wish I could work for her in her marketing department! Big dreams 😊
